Academic Honors Scholarship Program

2010-2011

Over many years, North Broward Preparatory School has awarded Academic Honors Scholarships to qualified rising high school freshmen.  North Broward Preparatory School is committed to continuing this program for the coming year.   

Eligible students must apply by January 29, 2010.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Candidate must be an entering high school freshman.
  2. Recent Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) performance at or above 97% National in (1) the reading OR verbal portion of the test and (2) the quantitative portion of the test.
  3. Candidate must demonstrate a record of leadership roles in school and community activities.
  4. Candidate must demonstrate a record of outstanding character and
    ethical behavior.
  5. Candidate must demonstrate an outstanding level of academic performance with a minimum grade point average cumulative and during each trimester of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in core academic courses. 

Application Process

  1. Candidate must take the SSAT. A Candidate must register online at http://www.ssat.org/. Test is administered on the Coconut Creek campus, Center Code 5385. The SSAT test must be taken only one time in order to apply for the Academic Honors scholarship. Test Dates: November 14, 2009 - December 12, 2009 - January 9, 2010
  2. All students applying must submit the following items before January 29, 2010.
    1. Scholarship Information Form
    2. Results of the SSAT
    3. Academic records from grades 7 & 8
    4. Copies of Standardized tests for Grades 6 & 7
    5. Two letters of recommendation from a past or present teacher, school administrator or clergyman
    6. Proof of leadership in school clubs, community organizations, school activities and membership in the National Junior Honor Society or other honor organization
  3. Upon receipt of all application components, qualified candidates will be invited to the school for an interview. The interview will be conducted by the school’s administrators.
  4. New applicants to NBPS must submit the following forms as well:

              A.  Application for enrollment 

              B.  Student application

              C.  Head of School recommendation form 

              D.  Teacher recommendation form

      5.  New applicants must complete the admissions process and be accepted prior to applying for the Academic Honors Scholarship.

Scholarship Maintenance Criteria

            Recipients of the Honors Scholarship will receive a letter of notification from the Director of Admission.  This letter must be signed and returned before the due date, along with the signed enrollment agreement.  All scholarship students must comply with the Scholarship Maintenance Criteria located under Forms and Documents.
