 | Confidence, Creativity, and the Love of Learning! The Lower School nurtures each student’s natural curiosity and love of learning. We meet students’ cognitive, creative, social and physical needs in a loving, supportive and warm environment in which each child develops and thrives.
The academically challenging program addresses different learning styles and multiple intelligences while fostering critical thinking and developing problem solving skills. Our students acquire cognitive skills and learn to take risks, work cooperatively and make sound choices.
The classroom environment encourages self-reliance and independence. Students develop the confidence to approach new situations and challenges because teachers instill in them a sense of responsibility. Each child feels comfortable with learning while being challenged to progress to new levels.
Teachers set individual goals for student progress based on rigorous assessments and benchmarks. These goals are reflected in a Personal Learning Plan (PLP) for each child. These plans enable teachers to clearly communicate with students and parents, as well as determine each student's progress throughout the year.
The core curriculum includes literature-based reading, language arts, writing, math, social studies, science, foreign language and computer instruction. Students have many opportunities to work above grade level. Enrichment activities and projects are implemented through all content areas to extend learning.
Our Fine Arts programs develop creative and aesthetic expression and appreciation. Students participate in vocal and instrumental music, dance, art and other art forms. All students participate in physical education classes, which include fitness training and sports.
A sense of community and a respect for self, others, property and honesty are promoted at all grade levels through our school’s Honor Code. Our integrated Lower School program develops our students’ sense of themselves as global citizens, teaching them to think deeply and critically about the world around them. |
